Order of operations:

  1. Reveal boss card: Flip over the top card of the Boss Deck to reveal what you’ll be fighting.

  2. Determine turn order: Players roll 1d20 (or 3d6) to determine their Speed for the fight. Compare hero speed with boss speed on the Boss Trait Table to establish turn order; highest goes first followed by next highest and so on.

If there is a tie between heroes, the player who rolled first, goes first.

If there is a tie with a boss, hero goes first.

  3. Action on the player’s turn: Fighting the boss is performed by laying a single Damage Card on/near the boss card. Cards are worth their face value, except for Ace which is worth 1D6. Damage cards are played one at a time and face up. The boss is defeated when the sum of the damage played against it is equal to or greater than it’s Health according to the Boss Trait Table.

Action on the boss’s turn: Bosses fight the heroes by randomly selecting a target and rolling for Damage according to the Boss Trait Table. The target can be determined by rolling a die, just make sure to establish who-is-what like Even/Odd or High/Low and to use a unique color or shape die for clarity.

  4. Reset & replenish hand: When a boss is defeated, the boss card and the damage cards used to defeat it are flipped face down (played damage cards cannot be recovered). Replenish your hand to three cards from either of your damage decks. Resolve Resting and Recovery if applicable.

Alternative Action Options: If a player would rather not play a card from their hand or has no cards left in their hand on their turn, they may play a card directly from the top of a damage deck until the end of the round. If a player runs out of cards in their damage decks and hand, they attack with a 1D6 for the remainder of the game (not eligible for Well Executed Attacks).

Well Executed Attacks: Heroes deal extra damage during certain pair scenarios (regardless if a boss attacks in between). The latter attacker may roll as described and adds it to the damage against the boss (only one pair bonus per player turn).

Resting: Any hero that has not interacted with a boss before the boss dies has rested. A hero interacts with the boss during attacks, including boss attacks.

Hero Death: If a boss attacks a hero and their health decreases to zero or past it, they are unconscious and are no longer able to fight. If the boss can be defeated by the surviving hero, they can assist the dying hero.
